The original packaging (which I also designed) with its hand-stamped flavours was a versatile and unique solution that proved very popular. But with growing demand and a shift of focus from bars to retail I worked with them on a new packaging solution to take them forwards, while remaining true to their roots.
I set myself the challenge of creating a packaging system that describes the flavours in a playful way while staying true to what made Six Barrel so distinctive. Colour and pattern led the charge. Some these flavours were easy to visualise (like lemon and cucumber), others not so (we’re looking at you sarsaparilla…). Then we got busy refining the fruit illustrations from the original labels to make them suitable for printing and exporting.
In addition to their syrups, I have designed and re-designed their RTD sodas, collaboration flavours, signage, event material, vending machines and tattoos.
And, as luck would have it, all this work for Six Barrel earned us a spot as a finalist in the NZ Best Awards.
